Nature and my artistic creation
My growth is directly related to nature. My father was a geologist and he lived in the mountainous areas of Yunnan. As far as I am concerned, it seems that I live in a direct feeling and dialogue with nature, and the imprint of geology is deeply rooted. The difference in style and scenery in the scene becomes a “beautiful” memory of each other in different growth periods. When deciding to study art, the geology work of my father and the pathology of my mother (doctor) were already part of my knowledge and experience, and the understanding and grasp of nature have always been in my artistic creation.
The yearning for “Other Places” behind Qianzhong Mountain and Wanzhong Mountain is a motivation for my inner uneasiness since childhood. Knowledge of pathology and interest in geology have made me more sensitive to the relationship and balance of the environment and living systems than others. The original creative materials come all from paleontology and human anatomy, even the material presentation or body tissue under the microscope.
The beginning of the “News Series” is the yearning and attention of the world after the “Great Wall” for the great changes of the times. The newspaper serves as a window for dialysis of new things outside Yunnan, and the boring work caused me to start painting “smears” of newspapers on my desk.
There are two strong messages: one is that art does not stop due to work restrictions; the other is that reading cannot satisfy the desire to participate in the era. It was 1998.
The “visual reading series” is a break of the plane attribute. The work directly spans the painting with the three-dimensional attribute of “sculpture”, but it maintains the straight sense of the plane on the shelf. Whether it is a “news series”, “trace series” or “visual reading series”, all cause some confusion.
It is a ready-made product but it must be transformed; it is a material but not the original intention of the material; I do not care about the complete unity of the technique; it is abstract but functionally destroyed to form a “misread”, it is conceptual but not the concept as a full display; it is an installation but there is an illusion on the plane.
Finally, I have to put forward the concept of low-carbon environmental protection. All the works use “abandoned” paper media; as long as there are “colored materials” of the paper media, everything is possible It is the supporting structure. Paper-based works are still in progress.
Environmentally friendly and low-carbon art creation will never end. The Chinese environment has reached a critical moment, and the contemporary art world needs me.
