99000 Ksana of one incense
“This work shoots of some broken woodcarved idols ,I collected from the online antique market. The white line in the picture is the incense burned for these distressed idols. The exposure time of each photo is the time of a column of incense, about 30 minutes. The studio is completely black. A bit of light from the incense head gradually burned out of the meteor-like light track, and also made everything in the dark develop.
According to the time in the Buddhist scriptures, the exposure of this photo took ninety-nine thousand moments, and one moment contains nine hundred lives and deaths, that is, the birth and destruction of nine hundred lives, so in another sense, the photo records It was a grand burning about Chinese beliefs, history and culture.”
Portrait of Mr. World
Sonnet of life and death
This work is about some recent insights.
Life and death are like two worlds in and outside the mirror; playing cards can be with the upper and lower ends that rotate at will, the reality of death and the reality of life.
The illusion is therefore relative, and the poetry of life lies in this drift, in his hesitation and misjudgment.
A flash between memory and disillusion
This new series of ten photography artworks taking the format of the tradition Chinese scroll painting is created by Maleonn and his friend Lv Xiaodong in 2017. It took a whole year for the preparation and the onsite shooting, that allows the completed images contain the views of four seasons and from four different provinces in China including Zhe Jiang, Shaanxi, Qing Hai and Gan Su. It could be considered as a re-arrangement of our memory to the Chinese culture, using the digital image technique and through the eyes of the individual struggling in the stream of a consumerism and mercantilism reality. These lonely characters, such as the ancient alchemist, the monk and the vigilante, no longer fits in the modern environment and have became a vague symbol in the Chinese modern culture language. It is the artist’s attempt to bring these characters back into the eternal wildness of nature, thus accomplish a transmigration in narrative.
It is an elegy for the spiritual homeland which now is gradually drifting apart and bears our nostalgia for China in ancient times. What’s more, it seeks for a concealed re-construction and darning of our mysterious traditions. Through this deliberate attempt, it is hoped that by using the magic of photography and the fragments of these uncertain clue, the classic scenery that used to be familiar could be re-created.
As the ancient Chinese poet Su Shi used to write inMy First Visit to the Red Cliff,“Water flows away but is never lost. The moon waxes and wanes, but neither increases nor diminished.”It is believed that although the river never stops running forward, the tides and waves would always be consistence, as no matter how the moon changes its appearance, the nature of this planet would never be effected. May the curiosity rooted in our blood becomes the kindling to ignite the inheritance of our culture. May there is always light in our eyes to lead us stepping forward.
